Tiiu Malle Volmer, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at age 85, leaving behind a legacy of love and creativity.
Born in Valga, Estonia, on June 10, 1939, Tiiu's early life was a testament to resilience, shaped by the events of World War II. Her courageous journey to the United States in 1944 is a story of strength and determination.
Growing up in Cleveland, Ohio, Tiiu thrived with family and stayed connected to a strong Estonian community. She graduated from Cleveland West High School in 1958. Throughout her school years, Tiiu spent summers attending Cleveland Art Museum's summer youth program. There, she found her love for art and earned a full scholarship to Toledo University, where she earned her degree in 1962.
On February 28, 1960, Tiiu married the love of her life, Toomas Volmer, and together, they raised their beautiful family in Beavercreek, Ohio. They were blessed with four children, Karin Elsea, Kristi (David) Jennings, Paavo (Jennifer) Volmer, Aili (Jason) Gallardo, 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Tiiu dedicated her life to nurturing her family while always fostering their imaginations, curiosity, and creativity. She enjoyed sharing laughter and unforgettable memories with her children and grandchildren.
Tiiu's love for art was a meaningful aspect of her life. She enjoyed the moments spent drawing, painting, and creating beautiful works of art, often drawing inspiration from the picturesque backdrop of their Hillsboro farm. Every card she signed was decorated with her characteristic artwork! Her faith, which played a significant role in her life, was reflected in the beauty she created and the warmth she shared with her community at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Kettering, Ohio.
Tiiu will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit lives on through her art and the love she gracefully shared with everyone around her.
