Thomas Edward Whitten
Age 78, of Dayton, passed away Friday, August 20, 2010, at his home.
Tom was born February 12, 1932 to Thomas & Moselle Whitten. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Marian Whitten and one sister, Francis Monroe.
Tom is survived by his wife of the past 52 years, Marilyn J. (Hisle) Whitten; three daughters, Terri Cottongim & her companion, Tyler Jones, Sherri Whitten and Robin (Daniel) Alig; six grandchildren, Chad Cottongim, Bret Cottongim, Travis Mays, Kaytlynn Mays, Ryan Alig & Kassie Alig; one great grandchild, Audrina Mays; his dog & faithful companion, Zoe; two brothers, William (Vanda) Whitten & Charles (Phyllis) Whitten; three sisters, Faye VanWinkle, Betty Jo Hood & Judith (Fred) Mullins; sister-in-law, Betty Whitten; and by his extended family and many good friends.
Tom was a U. S. Army veteran; a retired Iron Worker with 47 years of service and a member of Northridge Wesleyan Church.
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 23, at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Stanforth officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens.
