Thomas E. Didas (born 1/19/1945, died 12/30/2023)
Tom was born and raised in Irondequoit, New York. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his dad and older brother, but his real passion was sports. He kept his grades up in order to maintain eligibility for sports teams! Basketball, baseball and soccer filled his after-school hours and he lettered in all three. He received his associate degree in Criminal Justice from Monroe Community College in Rochester, then transferred to University of Dayton to complete his BS in 1968 in the same course of study. He then served Miamisburg (his & Linda's adopted new home town) first as a police officer, then as attendance officer for the school system. Following that, he had his own (very successful!) painting business for two decades.
In addition to his family, his greatest pride was to have started the Miamisburg varsity soccer program while he was with the school system. He was the head coach for 1981 through 1986 seasons; the 1982 team was runner-up MML champion. He returned to "his" team in 2011 as a volunteer assistant coach, and was proud and honored to be there. Tom's special presence was much appreciated by his fellow coaches, the players and their families.
He is survived by Linda, his high-school sweetheart and wife of 56 years, sons Jeffrey and Timothy, daughters-in-law Magon and Dawn, granddaughters Paige and Adrianna, step-grandson John Caleb Cole, and great-grandson Tymber Bahns. His presence touched so many people, and his absence is and will be felt by all of them.
A Celebration of Life for Tom is planned for Saturday, January 27, 1-4 PM, at the American Legion Post 165, 35 North Main Street (SR 25) in Miamisburg.
