Thomas J. DeWinter, a man of remarkable character and unwavering generosity, passed away on January 10, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on April 29, 1939, Thomas dedicated his life to helping those around him, always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. His compassion and kindness left a profound impact on all who knew him, he served as a role model and a figure that many looked up to.
Thomas proudly served his country in the United States Army, embodying the spirit of duty and service. His commitment to others extended well beyond his military service; it was a central theme throughout his life. He garnered respect and admiration for his selflessness and dedication to caring for those less fortunate.
An avid reader, Thomas explored a myriad of subjects and stories, finding both knowledge and enjoyment within the pages of countless books. His thirst for understanding and exploration of different topics enriched his conversations and cultivated a worldview that was inclusive and open-minded.
He cherished his family, and he is survived by his sister, Marilyn Jones, along with his caregiver and life-long friend, Chuck Calhoun, and many more family and friends who hold fond memories of him. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, John & Mary DeWinter, but their legacy lives on through the values and principles they instilled in him.
Visitation services will take place on January 17, 2025, from 9:30am until 10:30am at Newcomer North Chapel, located at 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424. A graveside service will follow at Woodland Cemetery at 11:00am. The family invites all who knew Thomas to come together to honor his memory and celebrate a life well-lived.
