Thomas Charles Clemens

June 22, 1943 — September 21, 2022

Thomas "Tom" Charles Clemens, age 79, of Washington Twp., passed away peacefully at home on September 21, 2022. Tom was born in Steubenville, OH on June 22, 1943, the son of the late Louis and Jean (Gotschall) Clemens. He married the love of his life, Carole Sue Clemens (Smith) on June 12, 1965 at St. Patrick's Church, London, OH.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Carole; daughter, Jennifer Walker (Mark Manuel) of Troy, OH; sons, Patrick (Mary) Clemens of Philadelphia, PA, Andrew (Vicky) Clemens of Pittsburgh, PA and former Youth for Understanding exchange student Hugo Rojas Corral (Kiki) from Chile. Grandchildren include Hannah Walker Gauthier (Joe), Elizabeth Walker, Faith Walker, Abigail Walker, Noah Clemens, Eleanor Caniff and Katherine Caniff, Seth Clemens, John Clemens, Mike Vigna, Victoria and Catalina Corral, great-grandson Evander Clemens, four brothers, a sister and many nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Jewett High School, Jewett OH, Tom furthered his education by earning his bachelor's degree majoring in biology with a minor in English from the Ohio State University. After brief service in the US Air Force, Tom went on to have a 30-year career as a public relations/business office manager for Ohio Bell/AT&T. During his tenure he served in the Findlay, OH area and in Dayton, OH. He was a member of several service clubs such as Kiwanis, Rotary, Lions Club, and the NAACP and often spoke to them and to schools communicating the various functions and benefits of AT&T products and services.

After his retirement and having a zest for life and knowledge, Tom received a master's degree in Geology from Wright State University. Tom loved anything relating to geology and native tools, such as arrowheads. He also enjoyed researching prehistoric fossils and dinosaurs or primitive sea and plant life from millions of years ago.

Tom was a voracious reader. He also loved being outdoors, working in his garden, golfing with retiree buddies and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed his trips to Chile learning of their geology, eating new foods, and sharing time with Hugo's family.

Tom's faith was his guiding light throughout his life. His faith guided him to be a wonderful, loyal husband and loving, supportive father to his three children. Tom was an active and faithful member of the Incarnation Catholic Church where he served as a volunteer.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Miami Valley Hospital, the wonderful caregivers at Hospice of Dayton and the home caregivers from Springhills Home Care Assistance. Special thanks go to the family, friends and neighbors who have offered support during Tom's recent journey – Pam Lamb, Robyn Lowther, Richard and Sharon Clemens, Jerry and Cindy Clemens, Raymond Clemens, the Falthers, the Acebal's, Grenda, Betty Jo Rolfe, Melissa Weyrich, and members of Incarnation Church.
