Thomas Glenn Artman, age 87; passed away on Sunday August 8, 2021, at Hospice of Dayton with his wife and son by his side. Despite suffering a significant stroke, he kept his family laughing until the very end. He was born April 7, 1934, in Toronto, Ohio, to Bella Mae and William Jacob Artman.
He was a proud graduate of the Ohio State University and member of the Air Force ROTC. With the exception of working at Weirton Steel during college and a short time working with his father in the family business, he spent his entire career serving the U.S. government, first as an officer in the Air Force then simultaneously as a USAF Reserve officer and in the civil service.
Known as "Papa Tom" to his 12 grandchildren, he was a devoted son, father, and husband, and he will be dearly missed. He loved Ohio State football games, traveling to historical sites, and providing a loving home for all the pets his children brought into the house. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (Dick and Larry), a brother-in-law (Eddie), two nephews (Chuck and David), and two great-nephews (Michael and Jordan). He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Reatha; children and their spouses Barbara and Jeff Gardner, Bill and Nicole Artman, Kathleen and Jon Meeker; twelve grandchildren (Jennifer, Jessica, Jacob, Jayne, Jeanette, and Josh Gardner; Thomas Ryan, Matthew, Nicholas, and Ashley Artman; Zoe and Till Meeker) and 5 great grandchildren and counting (Gavin, Heidi, Landon, Maverick, and Noah Artman).
