Theodore Merritt (Ted), at the age of 80, went home to be with the Lord February 3, 2007 at Mary Scott Nursing Home. He was born July 26, 1927 to Mr. John David and Annie Mae Merritt in Homer, Louisiana, County of Clayborn Parrish.
Theodore David Merritt accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Clayborn Parrish, Louisiana in 1937. He attended Homer High School. He met and married Ever Mae Bishop. From that union came David, Billy, Samuel and Ever June Merritt. Theodore worked for B. F. Goodrich for 20 years before the plant closed. To support his family he became a self-employed mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John David Merritt and Annie Mae Merritt, followed by his wife Ever Merritt and one daughter, Eva June Merritt.
His memory will be cherished by his three sons, David & his wife, Olivia of Dayton, Ohio, Billy & his wife, Dell of Albany, Georgia, Samuel D. & his wife, Jennifer of Woodbridge, Virginia; five grandchildren, Dave Merritt, Anginette Merritt, Tracy Merritt, Jomo Merritt and Chianti Merritt; eight great grandchildren, Octavia, Naquita, Damon, Ceria, Kesia, Kiana, Kayla and John Merritt; three sisters, Ida B. Grant of Dayton, Ohio, Annie Taylor of San Francisco, California, Tatressi Chapman of Shreveport, Louisiana; and a host of cousins, other relatives and many good friends.
The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Monday, at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton. Memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jennifer Merritt officiating.
