Thelma Helton, a beacon of love and independence, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024, in Huber Heights, Ohio. Born on June 6, 1933, in the town of Buffalo, Kentucky, Thelma was a woman of remarkable spirit, known for her outgoing personality that drew people to her, yet fiercely private in her endeavors.
Throughout her life, Thelma embraced each moment joyously, cultivating a family bond that she held dear above all else. Her proudest accomplishment was the love she bore for her family, a sentiment that resonated in every interaction and celebration. The bonds she nurtured were profound, with her daughter and son-in-law, Fonda and Rex Markwell, carrying her legacy forward.
As an adoring grandmother, Thelma cherished her time with her granddaughter, Kimberly O'Hair (Daryl) and grandson, Mark Markwell (Laurie) and basked in the laughter of her great-grandchildren: Lexi Hochstettler (Toran), Zachary Whittamore (Ashley), Cody Hurley, Nicholas Hurley and Lydia Markwell. She was further blessed with the joy of great-great-grandchildren, Gatlin, Lillian, Raelynn and Graham, who brought an additional sparkle to her life. Thelma is also survived by dear loved ones: Michelle Revas and her children: Marissa and Matteo.
Thelma was predeceased by her loving parents, Ballard and Sarah Hyden, and is now reunited with her husband, Virgil Helton. She holds a special place in the hearts of her family as they remember her alongside her beloved son, Virgil Lee Helton, her cherished grandson, Eddie Hurley, and many brothers and sisters who have also passed.
A visitation to honor her memory will take place on Monday, October 28, 2024, at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, Ohio, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Valley View Memorial Gardens, Xenia.
