T. Wayne Burns, 88, of Centerville, Ohio, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the comfort of his own home on Wednesday, November 11, 2020.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Hazel, of nearly 70 years, son Gary, daughter Teri (Tedd) Webster, sisters Sherryl Fletcher and Marla Lucas, grandchildren Josie Burns, Tyler (Lacey) Burns, Ryan Burns, Jessie (Danny) Biddinger, Jordy Webster, and great grandchildren Bodie Biddinger (Jessie), Lucy Biddinger (Jessie), and Brylee Burns (Tyler) and many nieces and nephews and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his mother Loreta Burns, and very recently his beloved daughter-in-law Maryann Burns (Gary) whom he loved dearly.
Wayne and Hazel grew up in Milton-Freewater, OR. Wayne was affectionately called "Willy" by Hazel's sisters. Wayne and Hazel were married in December of 1950.
They moved to Bremerton, WA in 1951 where Wayne worked in the Naval shipyard for 9 years. During this time their two children, Gary and Teri were born. Wanting a college education, Wayne enrolled at Walla Walla College. He then transferred to Loma Linda University where he received a degree in Physical Therapy in 1965.
The family then moved to Kettering, OH in the fall of 1965 where Wayne worked as a PT at Kettering Hospital, moving to the administrative position of Director of Rehabilitation until 1991. He continued working as a contracted PT until 1997 when he then retired.
Wayne was very involved in the Kettering Seventh-day Adventist Church and volunteered his time as director of Tape Ministries for many decades. He was so supportive of his wife Hazel and her ministry as a pastor. He always put God first, and most mornings you could find him in communion with God with his bible and markers.
Wayne was known as a kind and gentle man: inclusive, generous, with a welcoming smile and twinkling hazel eyes. He loved music and had multiple instruments that he enjoyed listening to his family play. He loved to laugh and had quite the mischievous laugh and giggle. He thrived in a good debate and loved a good joke. He was an adoring and loving husband who was completely devoted to Hazel. It was very evident how much he loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and left a legacy of love.
A virtual celebration of life will be announced at later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Spring Valley Academy as Wayne was such a huge supporter of Seventh-day Adventist Christian Education.
