Sylvia R. Pogue

In the early morning hours of January 10, 2025, we lost an incredible soul, Sylvia Rose Pogue to lung disease. Born in the heart of Dayton, Ohio on October 18, 1956, Sylvia attended Roosevelt High School and Dayton Job Corps Center. She was a longtime and faithful member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church. Sylvia was a devoted grandmother and mother who enjoyed spending time with close family and friends.

Preceded in death by her infant son, Thomas Pogue, who passed away from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS); her grandmother, Ruth Jackson; mother, Marcia Pogue; brothers, Anthony Pogue, Richard Pogue, and Terry Pogue, and nephew, Richard Pogue Jr.

Sylvia leaves behind a loving family who will miss her radiant smile and infectious laughter. She is survived by her children, Spencer Deion Pogue, of Washington, D.C., Tiechia Nicole Miles, of Walton, KY, Michael Lamont Moore, Ronnie Pogue, and Deandre Lavon Odom, all of Dayton, OH.

Sylvia deeply loved her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and a sense of purpose in life. She is survived by Jahnasia Arnold of Atlanta, GA, Dieonte Miles and Jasmine Miles of Walton, KY, Michael Lamont Pogue Jr., Kaleb Hampton, Kion Hampton, Carmesha Hampton, twins Myshelle and Michael Moore, Farren Beach, Xyaire Odom, Nuri Odom, and Tru Odom; Great grandson, Jonathan Caldwell Jr. 

Also survived by her two sisters, Theresa Ann Shaw and Sharita Diane Pogue; nieces, Latia Henderson of Aurora CO, Erica Pogue, twins, Lamika and Tamika Pogue; nephews, Terry T. Pogue, Jason Pogue, Kevin Shaw Jr. of Charlotte, NC, Aaron Pogue, Jami Israfil; and close friends Charles "Smitty" Smith and Phyllis Holt, all of Dayton, OH.

The Pogue family will receive friends and visitors beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025, with services immediately following at 2:00 p.m., at Newcomer (North Dayton), 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, OH 45424.
