Sylvia Macek Coyne, aged 98, died peacefully on Dec. 31, 2012 at the Health and Rehabilitation Center at St. Leonard's.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward and her son, James Robert.
She is survived by the two sons and their wives, William and Linda, of Oakwood and Donald and Donna, of Olathe, Ks., as well as her grandchildren, Brian, Mark, Brenden, Reagan and Jonathan, her brother Donald Macek of Pittsburg and her daughter-in-law, Shirley Martin of Altamonte Springs, FL. Thirteen great-grandchildren also survive.
She was born on October 24, 1914 in Pittsburg to Catherine and Joseph Macek. Sylvia and Jim moved to Dayton in 1944 where she raised her family and worked as a bookseller at Rike's. Sylvia and Jim retired to Deland, FL in 1968. They traveled the world and had memorable adventures, including getting lost in the Forbidden City of China. Sylvia was known for her beautiful rose garden, her sweet tooth, and a genuine interest in others. She returned to Dayton in 1990 and continued to lead an active, inspiring life. Sylvia was a women of virtue - kind, loving, and uncomplaining in the face of declining health. Sylvia was a member of St. Albert the Great Church.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Sat. Jan. 12, 2013 at 10:00 AM at The Church of the Holy Angels with The Rev. Joseph W. Goetz officiating.
Our family is most grateful to Sylvia's caregivers. The staff at St. Leonard's took excellent care of her. Sylvia will be inurned in Winter Park, FL. Memorials in Sylvia's name may be made to the Benevolent Fund for St. Leonard's, 8100 Clyo Rd., Centervill, OH 45458
