CARPENTER, Sylvester, age 84, of Miamisburg, OH, passed away Monday, April 26, 2010 at home following a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, John Doc and Celia (Brewer) Carpenter, in laws, John Luther and Grace Phillips, grandson, Nicholas Carpenter and was the last surviving of 13 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruby Phillips. They were married May 23, 1947. Together they have 4 children, Dale (Ginny) Carpenter, Carol Carpenter-Rogers and husband Randy, Jeff Carpenter and Doug (Rachel) Carpenter, grandchildren, Matt Carpenter, Chad (Cathey) Carpenter, Anthony (Kelley) Bentley, Brande (Doc) Wieland, Mandi (Jack) Boyer, Randi Jo Rogers and Collin Beverly, Angela, Tyler, Dylan and Connor Carpenter, Rachel (Adam) Inman, Douglas John Doc (Courtney) Carpenter and Eli Carpenter, and 15 great-grandchildren, all who loved him very much! Sylvester was born on October 22, 1925 in Jackson Co., KY. He was a WWII Veteran and served in the 20th Armored Division, 27th Tank Battalion from March 1944 to December 1945. He was a retiree of General Motors and Sears Auto. Sylvester was a devout Christian brother of Dryden Road Pentecostal Church. Family will receive guests Wednesday, April 28, 2010 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Dryden Road Pentecostal Church (3201 Dryden Rd. Dayton, OH 45439). Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 11:00 AM also at Dryden Road Pentecostal Church. He will be laid to rest at Hillgrove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton.
