Steven E. Haws, aka Santa Claus, age 69 of Dayton, passed away Friday, January 20, 2017. He was born July 15, 1947 in Dayton, Ohio..
He is preceded in death by his mother, Jean Haws; father, Clifford Haws; step-mother, Emma Haws; and step-son, Derrick T. Wong.
Steve is survived by his wife 25 years, Nancy; step-daughter, Amy K. (Adam Stearns) Wong; two step-sons, Brandon G. (Corinne) Wong, Bill Schlotterbeck; two sisters, Ginny (Roger) Simpson of Austin, TX, Debbie (Bob) Post of Simi Valley, CA; numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several aunts and uncles; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Steve is a graduate of Belmont High School Class of 1965 and attended Miami University. He also retired from the City of Dayton and ASA Umpiring and was a member of the F.O.E. #321. A great joy in his life was being Santa for over 30 years. He was an avid bowler, a passionate fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and most importantly, loved spending time with family and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 7 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home- South Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, Ohio 45439. Visitation will be from 4 pm until the time of service. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Steve's memory.
