Diviak, Steven V., age 91, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Heartland of Beavercreek. He was born November 7, 1921 in Jeffrey, West Virginia to the late Joseph E. Diviak and Helen (Kalanay) Diviak.
He was a first generation American of Slovak descent and he was very proud of his heritage.
He was preceded in death by his eight brothers and sisters and is survived by his wife of 69 years, Barbara M. (Francis) Diviak and his four children, Steve (Kathy), Patricia, Tom (Pat) and Greg (Sooni). He was also the proud grandfather of 18 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren and a multitude of great-great grandchildren.
Steven graduated from Big Creek High School in War, WV, in 1941. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served during WWII as a crew chief on B24 airplanes. In 1951 he was hired at WPAFB as an aircraft mechanic. He remained there until his retirement in 1982. He loved his family unconditionally and was always there to help whenever he was called. His great grandchildren have always called him "Candyman" because he always carried candy in his shirt pocket to hand out when he came to see them, which was often. He had a very outgoing personality and never met a stranger. In his later years, he loved to go Steve and Kathy's property in Kentucky and help out with building projects.
He will be deeply missed.No Grandpa was ever loved more. And no Father will ever be missed more.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home-Beavercreek Chapel, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek with a service following at 7:00 pm.
