Steve Maynard, age 83, passed away on Sept. 12, 2017.
Born in 1934 to George and Mary Maynard, Steve grew up in Naugatuck, West Virginia. He graduated from Lenore High School in 1951, and married his childhood friend, Vivian Crum Maynard, in 1955.
After moving to Dayton, Steve attended Wright State University and worked for General Motors. He later went on to work for the City of Dayton for 38 years - retiring as Superintendent, Water Distribution in 1995.
Steve was an active member of Alpha Lodge 729, the Scottish Rite and Dayton Antioch Shrine. He served in the Antioch Marching Patrol and was Antioch Potentate in 2004. He also served as a board member of Our Common Heritage - a proud salute to his Appalachian roots.
A small town boy from West Virginia, Steve was able to travel and experience the world. He snorkeled the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, zip lined across Caribbean islands, sailed around the tip of South America and walked the Great Wall of China. He was funny and fun-loving, and never afraid to be the first one on the dance floor.
Through it all, Steve never met a stranger. He was a loving and compassionate husband, father, grandfather, leader and friend. He will be missed so much by all who knew him.
He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Vivian; son, Rick (Teresa); grandson, Matthew; and many other relatives and friends.
