WAGNER, Sonya Thiel, age 78, of Dayton, OH, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2006 at Mercy Siena Woods after a lengthy illness. Preceded in death by her parents Margaret Thiel and Robert Hall; son, Gary R. Wagner; sister, Charlotte Krug; brother, Melvin Thiel. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Lavern (Vern) J. Wagner; two daughters, Karen Francis of Vandalia, OH, Gayle Besecker of Huber Heights; granddaughter, Kandee Tinkham and her husband Andy of Columbus, OH; great-granddaughter, Allison Tinkham; her brother, Ronald Thiel of Naples, FL; sister, Janice Maurer of Boynton Beach, FL; numerous nieces and nephews. Sonya graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1945, she was involved in alumni reunions and ladies luncheons. She was employed by Diebold Corp. and Dr.'s Slutzky and Loesh Optometrists for over thirty years. She was a member of Trinity and Messiah Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, she volunteered at the Dayton State Hospital, Veterans Administration, and Girl Scouts of America as a scout leader and site director. Previously an avid bowler and bingo player until her sight began to fail, a member of American Legion Post #675 Women's Auxiliary, Harrison and Butler Township's Senior Citizens and Wayne Booster Bingo Association. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2006 at Newcomer Funeral Home (4104 Needmore Rd.) where funeral services will be held Monday, January 30, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. Burial will follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Mercy Siena Woods for their support, loving care, and assistance during the past 4 years.
