Shirley Ann Marbury, 77, of Dayton, passed away on May 14, 2022 at Miami Valley Hospital. She was born on November 2, 1944 in Columbus, Georgia, into the family of the late Jimmy and Marion Starr.
Shirley is preceded in death by her only son, John E. Porter Jr, sister Bernice Starr and brother Walter Starr.
Shirley accepted Christ early in life and was a current and faithful member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Shirley worked at the Mead Corporation as a Customer Support Specialist and retired after 20 years. Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.
Shirley is survived by her beloved daughters Janice (Roderick Sr.) Moore and Sylvia Porter, both of Englewood OH, her grandsons, TSgt John E. Porter III. of Japan, Joshua Porter of Fairborn, and Roderick D. Moore, Jr. of Michigan; siblings; Jimmie (Cynthia) Starr of Macon GA, Deoliver Starr of Englewood OH. She is also survived by (Aunt) Hattie Chatman, (Uncle) Rev. Joseph (Mable) Seldon, both of Dayton, special friend Ghana McGowan, and numerous family and friends.
Shirley had a smile that would light up any room. She was so kind to everyone she met. Those who knew her children knew and loved her because of her spirit. Shirley loved to dress, wear the sharpest shoes, and kept her nails done. Her nickname "Pretty Lady" fit her inside and out. The most important thing to Shirley was spending time with daughter Sylvia and how proud she was of her children. Shirley had a special bond with her nephews Anthony Starr and Gregory Gray. She would help anyone she knew. A rare jewel. Shirley is well loved and will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am -11:00 am on May 23, 2022 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church located at 27 N. Gettysburg Ave. Dayton, Ohio 45417. Funeral Service will be officiated by Rev. Jarvis A. Ellis, Sr. following the gathering at 11:00am. Shirley's final resting place will be at West Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6722 Hemple Rd. Moraine OH 45439.
