Shirley M. West
Age 81, of Huber Heights, Ohio, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011, at The Hospice of Dayton.
She was born January 28, 1930 in Urbana, Ohio to the late Forest and Margaret (Siegenthaler) Birt. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph West, Jr.; and her sister, Betty Smith.
She is survived by her five children, Dawn Etmans, Kyle (Teresa) West, Lisa (Mark) Shrewsbury, Leslie (Dawn) West and Lorrie West; her brother, Ronald Birt; sister, Pamela Birt; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
After raising 5 children, Shirley worked as a waitress, contributing to the realization of her husband's dream of building a boat on which they sailed the Caribbean seas for the last seven years of his life. After the death her husband, Shirley resided in Cape Canaveral, FL for several years where she provided care and companionship to the elderly. She returned to Ohio, where she lived with her daughter, Dawn, until her passing. We will miss her unusual humor and observations about life and her willingness to try anything once.
