Shirley Mae (Cheever) Strauser was born January 31, 1924 to Paul and Clara Cheever in Hibbing, MN. Shirley passed away on July 21, 2016 at Hospice of Dayton after a brief illness. Shirley attended Hibbing High School and Business school in Duluth MN. After graduation, she traveled to St. Cloud, MN to work as "Rosie the Riveter" in the war plant. She later took work with Greyhound Bus Company in Seattle, WA. There she met and later married Wayne Strauser on September 25, 1948. They relocated to Dayton, OH where Wayne believed he could find the greatest amount of work and financial opportunity. Shirley spent years managing the many rental properties that they accumulated. To this union, three children were born, one girl and two boys, Lisa, Kyle and Mark. Shirley prided herself on and kept a beautiful home. She was devoted to her family above all else. She was a wonderful cook and loved to spend time with her children and their families.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brothers Robert Cheever and Howard Cheever. Shirley is survived by her sister, Lois (Cheever) Wieland of Dayton, OH, daughter Lisa (Scott) Frieszell of Brookville, OH, son Kyle Strauser of Cridersville, OH and son Mark (Susan) Strauser of Dayton, OH. She is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving are cousin Colleen Newberry of Etowah, TN who was raised from infancy by the Cheever family and a host of nieces and nephews. Shirley was the most generous and loving spouse, mother and friend to everyone. She will be missed.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 12 PM at the Faith Lutheran Church in Dayton. The family will greet guests at 11:00 AM. There will be lunch to follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Shirley's name may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church, 3315 Martel Drive., Dayton, OH 45420.
