Shirley S. Lehman

Shirley S. Lehman, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, passed away on July 2, 2024, in Dayton, Ohio, after a brief illness. She was born on August 1, 1937, in Hazard, Kentucky.

Shirley led a fulfilling life characterized by hard work and dedication. Graduating from Hazard High School, she embarked on a varied career path.   After high school, Shirley began working for a lumber company and a clothing store in Hazard.  She then moved to Dayton, OH where Shirley's warm personality shone through as she worked both at the skating rink in Fairborn and for WPAFB.  Shirley later worked at the VA Hospital in Battle Creek, MI.  

Those who knew Shirley will fondly remember her as a loving, nurturing, funny, and supportive individual. Her family meant everything to her, and she considered being a mother and grandmother her proudest accomplishments.  Shirley was also very proud military spouse to her husband James.

Shirley was a longtime member of Huber Heights First Baptist Church.  In her free time, Shirley enjoyed gardening and basking in the beauty of the outdoors. She was a Cincinnati Reds fan – a passion that brought her joy throughout the years.

Shirley is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, James Lehman; daughters: Susan Sanderson, Sharon Nangle (Rob), and Sandi Lehman; grandchildren: Erica Carroll (James), Morgan Leonardi (Michael), Emily Reder (Brandon), Liz Comer (Kyle), Mackensey Lehman, and Kendell Lehman; great-grandchildren: Olive, Layla, Laney, Logan, Bailey, and Xavier; sister Peggy Back; special niece Cheryl Dale and family; along with other relatives and friends.

Shirley's presence touched the lives of many and her memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace knowing she was loved deeply and will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 am on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, where the funeral service will begin at 10:30 am.  Burial will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, New Carlisle.  To share a memory of Shirley or leave a special message for her family, please sign the online guestbook provided.
