Shirley Joan Queen

Queen, Shirley "Joan", age 85 passed away peacefully to join her angels on November 25, 2012. Joan is preceded in death by her parents Glenna Lyons and Raymond Lyons, sister Judy Swankhouse and brother-in-law Bob Swankhouse. Joan will be greatly missed by her children, David Swankhouse (Gail), Debbie Schaar (Mark), Brenda Casterline (Chris) and Kevin Queen (Karen). She leaves behind five grandchildren, her beloved Rachel Ann, Mallory, Megan, Christopher and Brooke and three great-grandchildren. She also leaves two wonderful nieces Robin McKenzie, Shelley Sorensen and their families, along with a host of other relatives and friends. Joan lived her life for her family being not only a mother but also a father to her children. She loved unconditionally and all who knew her, felt that. She had a loving heart, a gentle spirit and a positive nature. Joan graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1945 and retired from the old Stouffers Hotel in 1993. Her family would like to thank the caring staff at Liberty Retirement Community where she lived the last year of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org. Visitation is Thursday Nov. 29 from 5-8pm at Newcomer Funeral Home – South Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd. Funeral service is Fri. Nov. 30 at 10:00am at the funeral home with Randy Chestnut officiating. Burial is immediately following at Woodland Cemetery. We will miss our mother, our friend, our HERO. May she rest in peace.
