Shirley Ann Daniel "Shotgun Shirley", age 82 of Dayton, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Dunbar Health and Rehab Center. She was born on June 18, 1938 in Statham, Georgia to the late Stokes and Lizzie Kinney. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her late husband, Williams Adkins; a brothers; two sisters, and her two sons, Stanley Redding and Rodney (Valarie) Daniel.
Shirley is survived by her seven children, Stanley (Drema) Kinney, Randy Redding, Faithan Barns, Emory (Leticia) Daniel, Vickie Daniel, Ricky Daniel, and Sean Daniel; bonus daughter Estella; nineteen grandchildren; special sister Lorita K. Harris; and her beloved fur babies, Cinnamon and Storm. She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Shirley is a one in a million mother, her smile was infectious and her sense of humor will never be forgotten. She was full of life and always made others laugh. She was kind, generous, and a compassionate woman of faith. Shirley enjoyed working at the voting polls and donating to many charities and organizations. In her spare time, Shirley read and wrote the most moving, inspirational, and beautiful letters to all kinds of organizations, even to her congressmen. She is a proud graduate of Roosevelt High School and Sinclair Community College. Shirley retired from the Board of Education and then went on to become a leader at the Dayton Parks and Recreation Department. She also devoted much of her life to teaching and advocating against bullying. Her biggest joy was being a homemaker. She loved to cook soul food and sweet potato pies for her friends and family. Shirley is well loved and will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Newcomer Funeral Home-South Chapel located at 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, Ohio 45439. Funeral Service will be formally officiated at 12:00 pm. If desired, memorial contributions may be made for the funeral expenses directly to the family.
