Shirley J. Commons, age 83, of Greenmont Village in Kettering, Ohio passed away December 31, 2020. She was born May 6, 1937 in Springfield, Ohio to the late Veron and Mary Etta (Dunn) Jacobs. She was a graduate of Fairmont High School, Class of 1956. Shirley worked at Keifaber, Reynolds & Reynolds, Miami Plating, Super Foods, and went on to retire from the City of Centerville. She was also the manager of Greenmont Village.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra A. Minnery (True), her grandson, Lukas T. Hall, her brother, Veron "Sonny" Jacobs, Jr.; half-brother, William Tarlsen; half-sister, Newana Graver; and her half-sister, Jean (Bill) Clause. Shirley is survived by her husband of 59 years, Edward "Ed" Commons; son, Douglas "Doug" (Carol) Commons; daughter, Rebecca "Becky" (William "Willie") Hall; grandchildren, David "Jay" Minnery, William "Will" Hall, Christian "Gunner" Hall, Samuel Hall, Dawn M. Commons, Rachel G.(David) Vaughn, Rebecca A. Commons, Samantha Jean Commons; great-grandchildren, Dominic, Brennan, Marissa, Aria, and Elaina. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn (Wally) Schaefle of Fillmore, CA, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Shirley enjoyed ceramics, knitting and sewing. She also enjoyed bowling, fishing and traveling.
Shirley will always be remembered for her love for her grandkids. .
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021 from 12:00 pm until time of service at 1:00 pm at Newcomer Kettering Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Park Cemetery.
The State of Ohio is under a mandatory mask order and has required that face mask will be worn in all public places.
