Shirley Elaine Carr (Howard)

Shirley Elaine Howard passed away surrounded by family at Soin Medical Center in Beavercreek, Ohio, on February 13, 2025.

Shirley was born October 20, 1946 in Xenia, Ohio. She was the oldest of six children.

Shirley was preceded in death by her father, William Edward Howard Sr.; mother, Margaret (Wilson) Howard; daughter, Idella “Kay” Boyd; two sisters, Mary Ann and Debra Howard; and a beloved niece, LaToyja Howard.

Shirley is survived by her sons, Robert (Kris) Young, Carlos (Sandra) Young, Vernell Young, Frederick (Katy) Carr, and LaVayl (Jesi) McKnight; grandchildren, LaTasha Finch, Joshua (Brandi) Young, Jessica Munguia, Josiah Young, Kyle Hamilton, Carlos Young , Jr., LaTonya “Michelle” Ramirez, Carly Young, Carl “Kirby” Johnson, Mario Young, Courtney Young, Vernell Young, Jr., Queshon Payne, Te’ Carr, Cameron Quilter, David Miles, Jasmine Carr, Tiese Carr, Tirese Carr, Frederick (Shannon) Carr, Jr., Teagan Carr, Riley Carr, Max Carr, and Stephanie McKnight; great-grandchildren, DeAsha Finch, Nathan Burns, Jr., Joshua Young, Jr., Janiah Young, Addyson Young, Miles Young, Kaelyn Munguia, Novan Munguia, Gracelyn Munguia, Mya Ramirez, Amaya Ramirez, Hazel Young, Rowen Young, Kamari Young, Maelani Young, D’Angelo Hamilton, Alexander Hamilton, Navaeh Branscomb, Tirese Carr Jr., Tehya Carr, Addalyn Miles, Aubrey Miles, Elaina Miles, Phoenix Carr, and Knilah Daniels; great-great-grandchildren, Madison, Morgan, and Melo Jones; two sisters, Karen (Robert) Murphy, and Oma Jones; brother, William (Nitra) Howard; and a host of family and friends.

Aside from her family who brought her much joy, Shirley enjoyed attending church, reading her bible, singing, cooking, baking, playing games including Yahtzee, Trouble, and video games, as well as making hand-made gifts for her loved ones. She was an avid storyteller, often recounting family tales so vividly that a listener practically felt that they themselves witnessed the event.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at New Life Christian Assembly, 436 E. Main Street in Xenia. Service will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the church. Pastor Robert Murphy III to officiate.
