Shirley Lorraine Baldwin

Shirley L. Baldwin, 94, passed peacefully away on Wednesday May 31, 2023, at Legacy Village Assisted Living in Xenia. Shirley was born in London, Ohio on July 27, 1928, to William Jason Justice and Clysta (Dinnen) Justice; next to a candy store as she joked for many years that is how she had developed her love of candy. She is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Luther Baldwin, Jr., whom she met on a blind date, and they were married a year later in 1949.

They set up house in Dayton, Ohio before finally settling in Xenia, Ohio in 1956. Shirley worked and retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base. After retirement Shirley enjoyed working in ceramics and crocheting. She spent several years as a member of the Board of Zoning Appeals for the City of Xenia. Shirley was instrumental in establishing a local chapter of the National Association of Federal Employees (NARFE) in Xenia, Chapter 2163. Shirley volunteered for the "Ohio Reads" tutor program, helping kindergarten through 4th grade students improve their reading skills.

She and Luther enjoyed traveling, flea markets, antique shops and sitting on their front porch drinking their evening coffee. She enjoyed her little house in Galloway Street filling it with treasures, good conversations, good food, laughter and above all, Love.

She is survived by her three children; Byron Keith (Michelle) Baldwin, Celia (Gary) Grigsby and Jeffrey (Steve Roark) Baldwin. Shirley was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved visits from her family and friends on the holidays or anytime.

The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring and loving staff at Legacy Village and the care she received from Ohio's Hospice of Dayton.

Public visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton Xenia Rd) on Thursday June 8, 2023 at 10:00 am with funeral service to follow at 11:00 am.
