On Saturday, March 20th, 2021, Sherrill (Skinner) Hutchinson, the Superheroine, recent widow, and outstanding mother, passed away at the age of 71 after a decade-long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Sherrill was born on Labor Day, September 5th, 1949, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Minnie (Giblin) Skinner and Oscar Skinner. She paid for her college bills with the sweat of her brow and soon received her degrees in History and English from the University of Texas at Arlington. As she dreamed of traveling the world her whole life, she fearlessly took the initiative and joined the Air Force. While stationed in Hawaii she met her future husband, Jim (Jimmie) Hutchinson. They were married on April 5th,1979, in Kansas where Jim was then stationed with the Army.
Sherrill dreamed of having three girls one day. As God granted her wishes with each pregnancy, her best friend and sister-in-law, Pat, remembered to her daughters how overjoyed Sherrill was to be a mother to each girl, Melita, Laura, and Caitlin Hutchinson. She also loved her stepsons, Andy, Mike, and Jon from her husband, Jim's, first marriage.
Sherrill was a true animal lover who found joy in feeding the forest of wildlife behind her house. As a philanthropist, she donated significant amounts from her paycheck to charities such as The Alzheimer's Association and Wounded Warriors. People who knew Sherrill described her in a variety of ways: a crackerjack, kind, a patriot, a hero, empathetic, and generous with time as well as money. In truth, she was all of that, but more than anything she loved unconditionally. She did great things for her country that will never be known because she worked in intel for the Air Force. In her homelife, she was frequently a caregiver to her eldest daughter. Often she'd welcome and feed anyone in need of family time or a good meal into her home. All in all, Sherrill was a miracle to so many and will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.
Sherrill was preceded in death by her mother, Minnie, her father, Oscar, her husband, Jim, and her brother, David. She is survived by her three daughters, Melita, Laura, and Caitlin, her three stepsons, Andy, Mike, and Jon, her brothers, Mike and Frank, her best friend and sister-in-law Patricia, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service was held on Wednesday, April 21st, 2021 at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park, 5725 Colleyville Boulevard, Colleyville, Tarrant County, Texas, 76034, at 12:30 pm. Any flowers can be sent to this address. If you'd like to make a tribute donation, her daughters, who cared for her throughout the progression of her disease, would appreciate it if you chose The Alzheimer's Association. www.alz.org
