Deacon Shelly Porter Sr., 78, passed away at the V.A. Medical Center on November 2, 2003. He was born on September 26, 1925 to the late Willis Porter and Amanda Porter, in Greenville Miss. He was one of three children. One brother Andrew Charles (A.C.) of Los Angels, Calf., who preceded him in death; He is survived by Mrs. Angie Porter, his loving wife of 51 years who he cherished until his passing; son Shelly Porter Jr.; and two daughters Beatrice Scott and Amanda Clayburn; seven grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; Essex who now resides in Hawaii; two step sisters, Shelly Mae and Willie Mae, and one step brother, W.P.; and host of relatives and friends. Shelly graduated from catholic shcool in 1944 and went into the navy that same year. He participated in World War II. He left the navy in 1946 with a honorable discharge and immediately went to work for Youngstown Republic Steel where he was a foreman, and retiring 35 years later in 1981. A dedicated worker for the Lord, Shelly was ordained as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Youngstown, Ohio in 1972. His final church home was the Emmnuel Church of the Brethren where her served as Superintendent of the Sunday School. Memorial Services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, November 7, 2003, Emmanuel Church of Brethen, Dayton, OH. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service.
