Shelley A. Penewit, age 70 of Bellbrook, passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at Hospice of Dayton. She was born on January 17, 1954, in Dayton, Ohio to the late Keith and Geraldine Wray.
Shelley was a cherished member of the Bellbrook community. In her early years, she dedicated herself to being a homemaker, nurturing her family with a profound love that left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Later in life, she became part of the team at Civista Bank. There, she formed lifelong friendships with coworkers and customers alike, showcasing her warm personality and genuine kindness. Shelley also played a vital role in her community by driving a school bus for Bellbrook City Schools. Throughout her life, she was very involved in the Sugar Maple Festival and the Bellbrook boosters, contributing her time and energy to the betterment of her community. A devoted supporter, Shelley was always spotted in the stands at her sons' football and basketball games, and later never missing a football or basketball game for her beloved grandson, JC, or their special Wednesdays. Her ability to make every child feel special earned her the title of ‘mom and grandma to all,’ as her home was always a welcoming space filled with love and laughter. She was known for never being without her signature red nail polish. She also loved flowers, playing Bingo, and taking trips to the casino. An outstanding cook, she shared her culinary talents by making delicious meals for her family and friends, including the team dinners for the boys. Shelley's legacy will not only be remembered by her achievements and friendships, but also by the love she spread to everyone fortunate enough to cross her path.
Shelley is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, John Penewit Jr.; sons, John Penewit III (Tiffany) and Joe Penewit; grandson, John "JC" Penewit IV and his mother, Jennie Penewit; step-grandchildren, Carlie, Connor, and Cayleb; niece, Becky (Brian) Landis-Kinner; great niece, Lindsey Banks (Nick); great nephew, Keith Kinner; great-great nephews, Carter and Cash; cousins, Eileen Smith and Donita Alexander; as well as many lifelong friends.
