Sharyl Smith Gardner

November 25, 1958 — July 21, 2023

Sharyl (Smith) Gardner, age 64, passed away on July 21, 2023, in Dayton, Ohio.
Sharyl was born to Sarah E. Smith and Donald Smith in Toledo OH on November 25, 1958, the youngest of four children. Sharyl graduated from McAuley High School in Toledo and went on to attend The University of Dayton for both her undergraduate and MBA degrees. Sharyl built her life in Dayton, Ohio and was a dedicated and loving member of the community.
Sharyl was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, who made an impact on everyone she met. She is survived by her husband, John Noack, her daughters and son-in-law, Shannon and Brian Ross of Raleigh, NC, Patricia Gardner of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, Brody Ross & Sarah Ross; grand-dog, Percy, siblings, Susan Elliott, Donald (Butch) and Susan Smith, and Debra Zwicke; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews.
Sharyl loved her work and had a long and successful career, starting at AT&T, then moving on to Right Management Consultants, Relizon, and ultimately finding her dream job at Midmark Corporation, where she worked for over 13 years first as VP, Human Resources and then as Chief Administrative Officer, before retiring in March of 2020.
In addition to her corporate work, Sharyl deeply believed in giving back, and spent countless hours working with causes she held dear to her heart. She served on the board of multiple organizations including Home City Ice, Huesman Group, and Pink Ribbon Good, a national non-profit serving those battling breast or gynecological cancer.
She loved her family fiercely, and in return, was fiercely loved. She believed that traditions were important, from 41 consecutive years of large family vacations to singing Paradise by the Dashboard Light into a spatula on Thanksgiving.
Sharyl loved being active and was an avid tennis player and early morning walker, enjoying both with the companionship of her life-long friends. She had a unique ability to bring people together and to make everyone feel important.
Sharyl fought a long and fierce battle with breast cancer with her initial diagnosis coming in 2013, and a stage 4 metastatic diagnosis in 2017. She fought tirelessly for almost 10 years, staying healthy, undergoing countless treatments, and doing everything in her power to prolong her time on earth. Ultimately it was her time to go, but she will be with us always.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Reverie Chapel at Southbrook Church, 9095 Washington Church Road, Miamisburg, Ohio 45342. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 4-7 PM, at The Schuster Performing Arts Center; Wintergarden, 1 W 2nd St, Dayton, OH 45402.
It was Sharyl's wish that memorial contributions be made to Pink Ribbon Good, or The Stephanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center, two organizations that were near and dear to her heart.
