Shan Loganathan, age 91, passed away at St Leonard in Centerville, surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 21, 2019 . He was born on July 23, 1927 in Musiri, Tamil Nadu, India .
He went to grade school in Musiri and then went on to college in Trichy before becoming a Veterinarian from Madras Veterinary College in 1950 on a scholarship. On March 18, 1951, he married Rengam Singaruvelu Pillai. Together, they had two daughters and a son . For nearly a decade, he had practiced Veterinary medicine in the villages and on cattle & poultry farms .
In the early Sixties, he went on to earn a Certificate in Statistics at Delhi University in 1962 and then a Masters in Dairy Science at University of Tennessee in 1964. He graduated with a PhD in Dairy Science from Virginia Tech in 1966. After graduation his first job was at Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, WV for teaching Chemistry and Microbiology.
In 1969 , he immigrated his family from India to Hagerstown, MD to teach science courses at HJC. He taught for 27 years and retired in 1996 as a Professor of Emeritus . He had made lifelong relationships with faculty members and students . He was passionate about teaching and it made a difference in student lives.
His hobbies included reading and traveling extensively to different countries. In 2010, he relocated to Dayton, Ohio with his wife Rengam. She passed away a year later from cancer . He is survived by daughter Kasthuri (Ramu), and son Ganesh (Maya), Grand children Rama (Nishanth),Devi, Amritraj(Nikki), and Kanchen, Great grand children Meera,Kavia, Emma,and Avi. Shan was preceded in death by his wife Rengam and oldest daughter Amudha.
