Samuel "Delta Sam" Williams, age 77 of Dayton, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2021.
Samuel Williams was born November 23, 1943 in Tuskegee, Alabama. He grew up in Dayton, OH with loving parents, the late John White and Lillian White. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, class of 1963. Sam joined the United States Air Force in September 1963. He served nobly and honorably as a Senior Airman during the Vietnam War. After receiving an honorable discharge, Sam spent the majority of his career as a Customer Service Agent for Delta Airlines. Many who traveled through the Dayton International Airport knew him as "Delta Sam" because he talked to everyone. Sam retired from Delta Airlines after 32 years. Sam was fortunate to marry Beverly on June 15, 1973. She would prove a true helpmate staying by his side through it all. Together they raised two children, Deandra and Michael in a home full of love, loud music, laughter and lively debate. Sam spent his retirement years continuing his love of reading (a regular patron of the Dayton Public Library), enjoying breakfast with his retiree group, and traveling with Beverly and friends to his favorite vacation spot Las Olas-Satellite Beach in Florida. Being near the water brought Sam peace and made him happy. Sam departed this life on January 9, 2021 at Kettering Hospital. Sam leaves to cherish his life his mother, Lillian White; his devoted wife, Beverly; his daughter, Deandra Alice Williams-Lewis (Calvin) and son, Michael Samuel Williams (Simone); grandchildren, Lauren, Logan and Langston; great-uncle John Grigley and his cousins whom he considered more like siblings, Jackie Boddie (Harvey) and Stanley Fletcher (Jeannette). Sam will also be missed by his three God children Chanée Uribe (Eddie), Rahman Howard (Brittany) and Daron Howard; sister-in in-laws Deena Jones (Theadeus) and Marian Glass; brother-in law, Lawrence Glass (Beverly); niece, Elizabeth Glass and nephews, Aaron Jones (Sheronda) and Andre Glass. There are a host of family and friends who will sorely miss his laughter, spirited conversation and lottery suggestions.
