Samuel "Sam" Hugh Cox, age 91 of Beavercreek, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2016. He was born in Dayton to the late Samuel John Cox and Margaret (Kennedy) Cox. Sam graduated from Parker High School in 1943 and then went on to proudly serve in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII, earning the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal.
After his honorable discharge he went on to work for NCR, then managed a Sunoco filling station, then worked at Duriron, after being laid off , he took the FSEE test for work at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and retired in 1988 after many years of loyal service as a computer programmer.
Sam had a passion for fixing things and took great pride in his tractor and trucks. He enjoyed traveling over the US and several countries. He became a member of Beavercreek Christian Church and helped construct our new building. He was an active member of the 110th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, shooting with his son. Above all he loved spending time with his family and all of his grandchildren. He was a kind, caring, and compassionate man who will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Lani Cox; brother, George Cox; and sister, Mary Crawford.
Sam leaves behind to cherish his memory, friend and partner of 24 years, Marilyn Seitz; children, Leigh (Otto) Zavakos, Anne Ruhland, and Jim (Jackie) Cox; grandchildren, Matthew (Robin) , Kathy (Chris), John, Rob, Josh, and Joy (Chad); great-grandchildren, Chris, Allie, Kat, Devohn, Ryleigh, and Dillon; and many other loving relatives and friends.
A celebration of Sam's life will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home - Beavercreek Chapel. Calling hours are from 4pm-6pm, with the service immediately following at 6pm.
