Sam Ashburn, Jr.

Sam Ashburn, Jr., age 64, of Dayton, passed away July 23, 2023. He was born September 6, 1958 in Holyoke, MA. Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Penny Ashburn (Ledbetter); father, Sammy Ashburn, Sr.; mother, Shirley Rabold; half-sister, Sylvia Mogush; and a beloved companion, his dog, Scotty.

Sam is survived by his daughters: Angela Ashburn (Jeremy Van Meter) and Tera Fernandez (Chris Knight); grandchildren: Dakota Hamman, Keegan Knight, Konner Knight, Kadence "Surrie" Knight and Gunner Van Meter; sister, Tammy Jergens (Bart); brothers: James "Jimmy" Ashburn (Lisa Hatton) and Kirk Ashburn; half-sister: Lisa Ashburn; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Sam is also survived by his very close friend, who was a father figure, Dale Gessaman.

Sam was the owner of Dale's Auto Sales for many years. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Sam loved being out on Brookville Lake jet-skiing. He was always willing to help anyone, had a great sense of humor and was a teller of tall-tales.

Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 am on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, where the funeral service will begin at 10:30 am. Burial to follow at Arlington Cemetery, Brookville. Contributions may be made in Sam's memory to Hospice of Dayton.
