Ruth Elizabeth Nelson
July 21, 1930 — September 28, 2022
Nelson, Ruth Elizabeth (Fitzgerald), age 92 affectionately known as Ruthie passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 28, 2022. Ruth was born in Queens, New York, to the late Jeanie (Frances) Porzig and John "Jack" Fitzgerald.
In her early years Ruth did modeling work in New York City. Throughout all her years, she continued to be impeccably dressed, always ready for a party or celebration, or just to sit and socialize with her many friends.
In 1964 she married William E. (Bill) Nelson and started their life of adventure together. They moved to Centerville in 1976. Together, they ran Docktor's Pet Center for many years. Ruth and Bill enjoyed traveling together over the years and were fortunate to see many exciting places.
Ruth was known for her charm and elegance with a side of "New York" humor and quick wit. She always thought of others, she knew no stranger and met people with the warmth and heart of those she had known all her life. She could make a friend wherever she went whether that be her morning stops at Dorothy Lane Market to read the newspaper...then put it back, to her conversations with the deli workers at Kroger. Ruth left a lasting impression.
Ruth made our lives, celebrations and holidays special and will be forever deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Bill and her brother, John Fitzgerald. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Lisa Ruth Nelson; granddaughter Miranda Ruth Blosser (Jason Blosser); great-grandson, Bentley William Powell; stepdaughter Laura Lynn Nelson (Tiberius Herman) and step grandson, Peter Coe Nelson-Herman; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 from 3:00 pm until time of memorial service at 4:00 pm at Newcomer Kettering Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd.
