Russell T. Lewis

December 14, 1931 — April 15, 2021

Russell Thompson Lewis, was born December 14, 1931 in Dayton, Ohio to William and Ruth Lewis. He passed away at his home on April 15, 2021. During his 89 years on this earth, Russell lived a remarkable life filled with adventure and travel, laughter, and joy, pain and sorrow.

He graduated from Roosevelt High School and attended Bowling Green State University. Before entering the military he married his first wife Barbara Jean (Clark) Lewis. That union produced three children, LeeNiata, Howard, and Ruth.

Russell was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing in Canada with his favorite uncle in tow Commodore McGinnis. Russell enjoyed traveling to places as Rio De Janeiro, Brazil during Carnival; Bolivia and many of the Caribbean Islands and Hawaii. His last trip was to Okinawa, Japan in 2018 to visit the birthplace of his second wife Yasuko Rosemary Coble-Lewis.
Because of his love for travel often when there was a three-day weekend, he would surprise Rosemary tell her to pack a bag as they only had two hours before their plane left.
Russell's other interests was photography, winning blue ribbons for his entrees at the Montgomery County Fair. He also liked to hunt and finally after three attempts was able to kill a black bear. Russell was a talented man. He taught himself to do plumbing, dry walling, drafting, laying cement, electrical work and sewing, at one time making gowns for his late wife and eldest daughter.

Russell was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Summit Christian Church, the AFPCA, CEO of Meadow Green HOA, and a retired Postmaster of the Brookville, Ohio post office.

Russell loved to tell jokes and would try hard to keep a straight face when telling a joke, however, he got so tickled telling the joke he would break out laughing, sometimes laughing so hard he could not deliver the punch line and made it hard to understand what he was saying.

The joy if his life was his children, grandchildren, his great grandchildren, and his loving wife.

Russell experienced sorrow with the passing of his first wife Barbara, his only brother Charles, father William, mother Ruth and then finally his only son Howard. His pain is what suffered he before passing. Left to mourn is passing is his wife of 36 years, Yasuko Rosemary, daughters LeeNiata Johnson of Ft. Worth, TX, Ruth Ann Tichenor and daughter-in-law Yvonne Lewis of Dayton; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, and sister and brother-in-laws.
