Russell Clifford Hastler III passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at Grandview Hospital on January 23, 2023. He was born on July 25, 1945 in Akron, Ohio to the late Col. Russell Clifford Hastler, Jr. and Normalee (Albright) Hastler.
Russell graduated from Walter E. Stebbins High School in 1964 where he was a class officer as well as a member of the gymnastics and football team. He went on to briefly attend Wright State University before joining the United States Air Force where he served from 1965-1969. Russell was later employed by the Duriron Company and US Chrome Corporation. He medically retired in 1998. He spent several years enjoying hunting, fishing and coaching youth sports teams. He found his greatest joy watching his children, and later grandchildren, in their various sporting events.
Russell was also preceded in death by his father and mother in-law: Wayne Jacob and Marguerite (Lewis) Ross, brothers in-law: Robert DiGuardi and Gene Wilson and sister in-law: Karen (Ross) Brown. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Dee (Ross) Hastler, his children: Heather (Todd) Emery and Derrick (Kim) Hastler, and his grandchildren: Jacob Emery, Sophia, Maggie and Hattie Hastler. He is also survived by his three siblings: Donald Hastler (Dan), Kathleen DiGuardi and Lynn Hastler (Vicki), sisters in-law: Erla Wilson and Kay Johnston, brother in-law: Charles Brown and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service for family at Fairfield Cemetery in Fairborn, Ohio on February 4, 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Russ to the Tunnel To Towers Foundation or the Walter E. Stebbins memorial scholarship fund.
