Russell Eugene Comer "Russ", 92, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2019.
Russ was born on August 18, 1927 to Joe and Eva Dorsey, but was raised by his aunt and uncle, Robert & Gwendola Comer after his mother passed away when he was just one day old. He graduated from Degraff High School in 1945. Russ enjoyed playing basketball, coaching little league baseball, raising horses, and fishing. He worked as a meat cutter and manager for many years. After retirement he worked part time as a newspaper deliverer for Dayton Daily News.
Russ loved the Lord and shared his faith with everyone around him. He attended First Church of God-Moraine. He was involved in prison ministry for many years and led Bible studies at the Workhouse and the Montgomery Co. Jail. Russ also enjoyed singing hymns. His favorite hymn was "I'd Rather Have Jesus".
Russ is survived by his wife, Judy (Storck); foster-sons, Philip (Bobby) Berry and Michael (Linda) Berry; daughter, Tammy (Jan) Dillak; step-sons, Jim (Vicki) Heinrich and Jeff (Karen) Heinrich; grandsons, Alex and Andy Heinrich and Russell Dillak; granddaughters, Laleesa (Steve) Calvert, Janeen Comer, Amber Berry, and Emma Merchant.
He was preceded in death by his foster- son, Gene Comer.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 2:00 pm with visitation beginning at 1:00 pm at First Church of God-Moraine, 5867 Springboro Pike, Dayton, OH 45449, with Pastor Donald Curtis officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Church of God-Moraine or Hospice of Dayton in Russ' memory.
