Rudolph Henry Steinmeyer

January 3, 1936 — June 20, 2024

Waynesville

Henry Steinmeyer, of Waynesville, passed peacefully at Quaker Heights Care Community in Waynesville, Thursday morning, June 20, 2024. He was 88.

Born on January 3, 1936, in New Marshfield Ohio, the son of the late Rudy and Lucy Steinmeyer, Henry grew up in New Marshfield and went on to earn a chemistry degree from Ohio University in Athens Ohio at the age of 20. Shortly after his graduation Henry married the love of his life, Joy Sickels, also from New Marshfield, joined Monsanto as a nuclear research chemist at the Miamisburg Mound, and moved to Dayton, eventually settling, and raising a family in Kettering.

First and foremost, Henry will be remembered, as a highly intelligent, yet humble, down-to-earth, and gentle man who was devoted to his wife and family, two daughters and their husbands, as well as two grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor, appreciated a good joke, never met a stranger, whether at work, at home, or around the globe, and loved nature and wildlife. Professionally, Henry had a 36-year career at the Mound where he contributed to the development of fuel and heat sources for NASA space programs, including the Apollo, Voyager and Cassini space probe missions.

Pre-deceased by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law, Henry is survived by his wife of 68 years, two daughters and their husbands, two grandchildren, and one sister and one-half sister.

Henry will be laid to rest at Miami Valley Memory Gardens in a private graveside service. Donations in Henry's honor may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of the Miami Valley.
