Ruby Jane Laymon

April 25, 1924 — January 12, 2024

Ruby Jane Laymon, age 99, of Dayton, Ohio peacefully passed away January 12, 2024 with generations of loving family at her side. She was born on April 25, 1924 in Wilmington, Ohio to Walter and Iva (Aldridge) Biggs. Besides Ruby's parents, she is preceded in death by her late husband, Charles Laymon and her sisters, Thelma Rex and Mariam Kemple.

Ruby worked at the PNC branch in downtown Dayton where she eventually retired after 42 years of service. She was sure to attend the annual Banquets for retired PNC employees to keep up with her former coworkers. After retirement, Ruby became a reliable and trustworthy pet sitter for a few world traveling friends. The pets were wonderful company!

Ruby lived in West Carrollton, Ohio for 50 years where she entertained many with her social and culinary skills as well as hosting many holiday gatherings for her generations of family! Ruby loved playing Dominoes and was likely to be the winner of most games! She was known for her noteworthy gardens and admired for the work she put into creating and maintaining such beautiful landscapes.

Ruby was certainly a social butterfly always sure to make genuine connections with others! She rarely missed one of Carol's sorority's Mother-Daughter Banquets. Ruby thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas celebrations with family at Deer Creek State Park every December. She was a proud member of the West Carrollton Senior Center. She went on many trips to casinos, to the La Comedia dinner theater and many other interesting destinations. Often, Ruby would put her creativity to work and enter the Halloween costume contest and the Easter/Spring Hat contest often coming out the winner or runner-up!

Ruby enjoyed traveling until her early 90s! She has traveled to destinations in Mexico, enjoyed many trips to the Hawaiian Islands, cruised to Alaska, and, traveling via RV, she has seen our countries' incredible National Parks.

Ruby chose to spend her last years at Austin Trace Health and Rehab in Washington Township, Ohio. There, she quickly made friends and won over the hearts of the administration and nursing staff! There, Ruby enjoyed the musical entertainment, playing games, creating arts and crafts, and working with her friends on countless puzzles and many a Happy Hour!

Ruby is survived by her two beloved sons, Larry (Sue DeBord) Laymon and Lynn (Linda) Laymon and her beloved former daughter-in-law, Carol Gorby; Grandchildren, Jeff (Nancy) Laymon, Tim (Amy Deeter) Laymon, Shelly (Tim Perini) Eubank; Great Grandchildren, Logan Eubank, Sydney (Michael) Manning, Zachary Laymon, Christopher Laymon, Marshal Eubank, Charlie Laymon and Henry Laymon.

Ruby was known for her class and style. She lived every moment of life to its fullest. She will be deeply missed by her family and her countless friends! At almost 100 years of age, she no doubt, experienced many hardships and heartaches but continued to put one foot in front of the other and carry on. So admirable.

Honoring Ruby's wishes, a private memorial service will be held at a later date. Please share your memories with her family and friends!
