Roy "JOEY" Mooney Jr., age 34, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Dayton on November 12, 2021. He is preceded in death by his father, Roy Mooney Sr.; and his grandparents Thomas and Dorothy (King) Lambert.
Joey's memory will be cherished by his parents, Tawnya and Mel "Rambo" Salazar (stepdad). He was a loving big brother to his sister, Torey Mooney (David Roberson), and his younger brothers, Travis Mooney and Nicholas Mooney (Julia Combs). He was a devoted uncle to his favorite guy and nephew, Khylen LaDale Mooney, and his precious nieces, Elliana Mooney, Zaymari Mooney and Nora Jo Roberson. He was a proud uncle and loved them with all his heart. He is survived by his fur babies, Opie and Otto; his Aunt Tasha & Uncle Thomas Oldham; cousins, Tashira & Miya McCreary; and Tommy Oldham. Joey leaves behind many close friends who he treated and loved as if they were his family.
Joey worked at Tenneco for 16 years in shipping & receiving and had also served as a Team Leader. He was a proud union member of the IUE-CWA, Local 755. A special thanks to his supportive work family; especially, good friends & brothers, Gary Sexton; Terry Grimes; and his work mom, Claudia Hall.
Joey was a lifelong Minnesota Vikings Fan. He loved watching college & professional football, baseball, basketball and soccer. He enjoyed playing video games, going camping, fishing, playing cards and hanging with his friends. He lived by the motto #Family1st. He dedicated his life to supporting his family and friends. We will remember Joey for the love he had for each of us.
BigWhite, we are so grateful for the time we had to spend with you. We will miss your sense of humor; your generosity; the big teddy bear hugs; and your stubbornness. You were our rock. We will always feel your presence in our hearts.
Family will receive friends on Monday, November 22, 2021 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio 45424. A second visitation will be held from 10:00am to 11:00am on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, where the funeral service will start at 11:00am with Reverend Beth Holten officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
The family has asked that attendees wear their favorite sports team jersey or the color purple in honor of Joey.
