Standafer, Roy Lee, 88, passed away May 29, 2013 from Parkinson's disease. Roy was born in Lexington, Kentucky, the youngest of 10 children born to Jenny & Elijah Standafer. He graduated from Lafayette High School.
He married Louise Jones in 1945 in Greenup, KY. Louise, his wife of 67 years, survives him. They had 3 children: Bonnie Jean Riffle who died in 2004; Connie (Steve) Ewing of Wash. Twp. & Debbie & Roy Lee Standafer II of West Carrollton. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Myrtle, Lula, Ollie, Bud, Logan, Leonard, Conley & Bess. He is survived by his devoted sister, Maxine Jones, of Lexington.
Roy worked for the McCall Corp. for almost 40 years; took classes at Sinclair College & then worked at Lexis Nexis for 8 years. Roy was a fast pitch softball player, bowler & avid golfer. His favorite golf tourney was the one he played in Acapulco, Mexico at the Princess Resort. He was a Kentucky Colonel; a Mason for 50 years; & a member of Judson Baptist Church for 50+ years; he visited the sick in hospitals and nursing homes; Roy was a loyal Univ. of Ky. Fan till the end. He is also survived by grandchildren: Lindsey Miles, Heather Fine, Kimberly Kops & Cody Standafer; by 7 great-grandchildren: Noah, Jaden, Houston, Brenna, Kyler, Campbell & Carly; friends of 50+ years: Sandra & Ern Stanyon. Roy had a work ethic like no one else & was known by all to be a "gentle man" and a gentleman.
Visitation: Sunday 2-4 p.m.; Funeral Monday 1:00 p.m., both at Newcomer Funeral Home - South Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, OH.
