Rosa Lee McNair was born August 20, 1926, in Plymouth, North Carolina, to the late Lawrence McNair Sr. and Georgianna (Thomas) McNair. Rosa Lee was the fourth of six siblings, Grace, Edgar, Lawrence Jr., Wyinona and Ethel. She received her education in the Plymouth Schools system and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1943 at the age of sixteen.
On January 4, 1941 at the age of fifteen, she committed her life to the Lord at the Church of God in Christ, in Plymouth, N.C.

She was a devoted wife and mother, instilling biblical values and teachings in her home.
She instilled in them the love of reading very early in their lives with many trips to the library. She also instilled in them the love of the arts and culture, with trips to the New York Metropolitan Art Museum, Museum of Natural History, The Planetarium, Rockefeller Center and The Bronx Zoo to name a few.
