RONALD "Bongo" EYLER, 70, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, October 10, in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Ron was born on April 2, 1943, in Middletown, the son of James and Florence (Griffith), Eyler, Jr. He was a 1961 graduate of Springboro High School. Ron enjoyed hiking the Appalachian Trail many times with his lifelong friends, often sharing with others the many stories of their adventures.

He also spent many happy hours boating and camping with family and Mike and Brenda Greer at Dale Hollow in Tennessee. He retired in 2006 from Kettering Parks and Rec. Ron was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of the V.F.W. Enon Post 8437, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Machinists Club.

He is survived by his loving and very caring wife of 22 years, Brenda (McDavid); three children, Kimberly (Joe) Van Gundy of Hilliard, Julia (Ben) Nead of Portland, OR, and Courtland (Jessica) Eyler of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Maria, Stasia, Enzo , Soren, Eitri, Arya, Brenna, Brayden and Riley; one sister and brother-in-law, Susie and Michael Crain of Arizona; one aunt, Minnie Eyler and several cousins, all of Texas; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sue and Dan McDavid , Pat and Hank Jones, and Debi Adams and Curtis Williams; many nieces and nephews; special lifelong friends, Andy and Sally Garst, Doug Chenowith, Clonta and Mary Fox, Fred and Mary Beth Pitzer, Dan and Debbie Keiter, Scott Cline and many other dear friends. He will be missed by his special kittys, Boots and Mouse (Puss).

A gathering of friends and memorial service for Ron will be held on Sunday, October 27, at 2 p.m. at the Enon V.F.W., 5075 Enon Xenia Pike, Enon, with the Rev. Bruce Heckman officiating. Special thanks to Community Mercy Hospice and especially Sienna and Jennifer for all of their loving care. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Mercy Hospice, 444 W.
