Ron Butcher, a beloved member of the community, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2024, in Dayton, Ohio, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born on November 22, 1954, Paintsville, Kentucky, Ron exemplified the strength and resilience that defined his life and career.
A dedicated learner, Ron attended Sinclair Community College, where he earned an associate degree in science in respiratory therapy. His journey in the medical field continued as he worked at Children's Hospital for a year before spending fifteen rewarding years at Grandview Hospital, primarily specializing in pediatrics. A back injury prompted him to return to academia at Wright State University, where he achieved a degree in biomedical engineering and a master’s degree in Human Factors Engineering. Ron persevered in his studies, completing all but his dissertation for a PhD in engineering. He also shared his knowledge and passion for teaching as a faculty member at Wright State, where he taught Biomedical Human Factors and Industrial Engineering for a year and a half.
Ron was known for his friendly demeanor, quick wit, and extraordinary personality. A methodical thinker with a strong sense of patience, he approached every task with enthusiasm and thorough research. Whether it was a home repair, a magic trick, or even tie-dyeing a parachute, Ron was the go-to person for his family and friends.
He was proud of his roots in a family dedicated to healthcare. Coming from a lineage of medical professionals, including his mother, two aunts, two sisters, and a cousin who were all registered nurses, as well as a brother who served as an STNA, Ron cherished this legacy and remained committed to his own career in the medical field.
Ron is survived by his devoted wife, Sam Meade, and his loving sisters, Tommie (Chuck) Deitering, Jamie (Dave) Krull, and Heidi (Dave) Pepiot. He is also survived by his uncle, Adron "Doodle" Blanton; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Michael (Alicia) Cales, Jason (Tiffany) Harris, Christina "Chrissy" Bailey, Francine Krull, Ryan (Mitchell) Krull, Sarah (David) Deitering, Samantha (Andrew) Couch, and Sydney Deitering. Additionally, he leaves behind many great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends who will greatly miss his warmth and encouragement.
Ron was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Beam; step-father, James Beam; brother, James "Bo" Beam; and sister, Christine Cales. His memory will be cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, as he touched lives with his kindness, humor, and unwavering spirit. Ronnie you will be missed, Cheerio!
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 17th 2024 from 12:30-1:30pm at the Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, Ohio 45424. A graveside service will follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery where Ron will be laid to rest.
