age 89, of West Carrollton, entered Heaven Memorial Day, May 29, 2006 at 11:45 p.m. from his daughter Betsy's reidence in Middletown. He was born June 17, 1916 in Ansonia, Ohio, to Albert and Emma (Hoffnagle) Winterrowd. He was a 1935 graduate of Greenville High School where he was an outstanding football player. Rodney volunteered for the Army in 1941 and served with the 66th Field Artillery Battalion, 4th Armored Division in Europe during WWII where he received the Bronze Star and five combat campaign ribbons. His record is in the WWII Memorial Registry in Washington, D.C. and his recorded experiences are part of the Library of Congress Veterans History Project. He married Mary Katherine (Schneider) in 1942 at Pine Camp, New York and was a loving husband to her until her death in 1990. They had three daughters, Judy, Betsy, and Kathie. Rodney worked as a well driller for 30 years with Clay Garrison, Moraine City, Ohio. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge and a 32nd Degree Mason. He was also a member of the American Legion. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers (Waldo, Harold, Lawrence, and Lowell) his sister, Ruth (Bayman), and his wife, Mary Katherine. He is survived by his brother Glenn Winterrowd of Greenville, his three daughters and two sons-in-law (Jerry Quinn and Ed Schlereth), 5 granddaughters (Kim and husband, Scott Gerhart; Melanie and husband, Jerry Bush; Nikki and husband, Ron Beans, Erin Cook, and Adrienne Schlereth), 3 grandsons (Doug and wife, Kat; Drew Cook and wife, Kelly; and Jason Cook), 9 great-grandchildren (Tyler, Katherine, Mitchell, Kelly, Adam, Carson, Easton, Nate, and Rachael), 5 nephews, 1 niece, and many friends. Rodney will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and for his loving devotion to his family. They were at the center of his life always. Funeral services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, South Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, Ohio 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2006. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
