Robert "Bob" Howard Williams, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 20, 2018 in Beavercreek, OH due to congestive heart failure.
Bob was born in Montebello, California on Aug. 14, 1929, the only child of Jewel Ethel Stone Williams and Howard Williams. His mother died of influenza when he was 11 and he was raised by his father and maternal grandparents, Arthur and Stella Stone. A veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars, Bob served 20 years in the US Army and retired as a Master Sergeant. He also worked as a JROTC instructor at Oakland Tech High School in Oakland, Calif. and did various other jobs once retiring from the armed services. He resided in several places during his life in the army but lived most of his life in Rohnert Park and Santa Rosa, California with his wife, Marilyn Grant Williams. He lived in Beavercreek, Ohio the last 12 years. Bob was an athlete in his younger years and a sports fan his whole life. He enjoyed music, shopping, and spending time with his family & friends.
Bob met Marilyn Grant in Palmdale, California and they were married Dec. 27, 1952. They had three children: Robert, born in 1954, Beverly in 1958, and Joseph Scott in 1962. Marilyn proceeded Bob in death on Nov 17, 2003 after a battle with cancer.
Marilyn was born in Dixon, Kentucky to Joseph Grant and Mary Maxwell Grant. She moved to California in her early 20's and worked as a telephone operator when she met Bob. She lovingly raised three children, and later in life worked as a micro technician for Hewlett-Packard/Agilent. Marilyn was an avid reader, loved gardening and horses, and enjoyed spending time with her children & grandchildren. Marilyn's siblings include a brother Hugh Grant (d.2017) in Calif., a sister Lila Meyer in Texas, and a sister Betty Turner in Indiana.
Bob & Marilyn Williams' family legacy includes their 3 children, 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Their oldest child, Robert (& Leann) Williams, grandson Ian Williams (d.1994), granddaughter Keirsten (Colin) Urbanski w/ great-grandchildren Peyton & Ian, granddaughter Jenny (& Larry) Griggs w/great-granddaughter Crystal, granddaughter Elizabeth (& Andy) Mills w/great-grandchildren Dillon & Madelynn, all reside in California.
Their second child, Beverly Watson (Tim d. 2013), resides in Fairborn, Ohio. Granddaughter Jessica (& fiancée Colby Earl) w/soon-to-be great-grandchildren Owen & Emily reside in Nevada, grandson Christopher Cahill (& Samantha) w/great grandchildren Colton & Emerson, and granddaughter Kendall, all reside in California.
Their youngest son, J. Scott (& Angela) Williams reside in Beavercreek, Ohio. Granddaughter Teresa (& Joe) Valencia w/great grandson Aiden reside in Hawaii, grandson Kyle Williams currently resides in Kansas City, grandson Brian Williams is at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, and grandson Evan Williams is at Urbana University in Urbana, Ohio.
Per his wishes, Bob's family will take his remains to be placed beside his wife, Marilyn, in Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California in the near future. A small service will be held once a date is decided upon. This website will be updated once the service information is available.
