Robert William McCarthy, known to his friends as "Bassin Bob", passed away on November 6, 2013 at the VA Hospice in Dayton, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
A long time Huber Heights resident, Bob was born on September 8, 1933 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Michael and Marie (Barrett) McCarthy. Bob was a proud Veteran of the US Navy, retired Millwright of local #1311 and #1066, and a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
In addition to his parents Bob is also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sweet Caroline and infant grandson, Gregory Dean Munger.
Bob is survived by his Sister, Mary Jane Leach; Daughters Christi McCarthy, Kathleen (John) Pepiot, Jackie (Greg) Munger, Suzan (Chuck) McCarthy-Airing; Granddaughters, Britny Lynn Scheerer, Samantha Michelle Munger, Charley Renee Munger; Nephew, Michael Leach and very Special Friends, Terry and Sharon Watson.
The McCarthy family was profoundly touched by and wishes to thank Anita, Liz and Nick at Perspective Health Care of Huber Heights and the entire staff at the Dayton VA Hospital, especially the Hospice Team at "Victory Ridge". The dedication and patience that our family witnessed while our father was in your loving care will never be forgotten. Special thanks to Hospice Nurse Eveline who was there when "Dad" took his last breath. We are so grateful for your gentle guidance at that exceptionally amazing moment.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 PM Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton. Graveside services will be held at NOON, Monday, November 11, 2013 at the Dayton Memorial Park, 8135 N. Dixie, Dayton 45414.
Bob, like his father, Mike, was a Hall of Fame Contributor to St. Jude's Research Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to this outstanding charity in his honor.
