Robert Randolph Smith Jr.
July 7, 1935 — June 3, 2022
Robert Randolph Smith Jr., age 86, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away at home on June 3, 2022 after losing his valiant battle with cholangiocarcinoma.
Bob was born on July 7, 1935 in Morgantown, West Virginia, son of the late Robert and Christina (Yauger) Smith. Bob graduated from Morgantown High School, class of 1953. Upon graduation, Bob enlisted in the United States Marine Corp where he served honorably and earned the rank of Corporal.
After being granted an honorable discharge, Bob earned a bachelor's degree from Fairmont State University, West Virginia.
With his business degree in hand, Bob sought employment at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, where he continued service to his country for over 40 years.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 61 years, Betty Lou (Watkins) Smith; daughters: Barbara (Bernard) Johnston and Jill (Michael) Tavernier; devoted grandchildren: Sarah, Tyler (Kathleen), Katherine, Matthew, and Andrew; sister, Linda Kiselica; and numerous dear loved ones and friends. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Carole DeCarlo.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 11:00am at the Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Roberts name to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
