Robert W. Schlaerth, age 72 of Vandalia, passed away January 30, 2014 at The Hospice of Dayton. Throughout his life, Bob demonstrated tremendous strength and courage. He was born October 4, 1941 in Lackawanna, NY to the late Robert S. and Edna M. Schlaerth.
Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia Schlaerth; son and daughter-in-law: Michael Schlaerth and Elaine Zamonski; daughter and son-in-law: Amy and Derek Albert; 5 grandchildren: Sydney, Ethan, Veronica, Katherine and Mira; sister, Deborah Kaufman; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The most important thing in Bob's life was his family. He was a constant source of strength to them, and they in turn strengthened him.
Bob retired after 36 years of service from the University of Dayton as the manager of Marycrest Hall Cafeteria. He was a former member and president of the Food Service Executive Association. He graduated from Paul Smith's College and the University of Denver. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm on Monday, February 3, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 272 Bainbridge Street, Dayton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bob's memory to The Hospice of Dayton.
