Robert O. "Sunday Bob" Hager
Age 88, of Huber Heights, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Troy Care and Rehabilitation Center after a courageous battle against cancer.
Robert was married to Margot A. Hager, who preceded him in death on September 7, 2001. He is survived by daughter, Hannah, step-daughter, Clair Kiger, his twin brother, Bill (Bernie) Hager and numerous friends.
Robert served our country in WW II as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division of the U. S. Army. He worked at Wright-Patterson AFB as a model maker until his retirement. He then worked at Meijer Grocery in Troy. Robert enjoyed the trotting and pacing horses for many years. He liked hanging out at the Montgomery Co. & Miami Co. Fairgrounds, where he was affectionately known as "Sunday Bob." He was a member of the U. S. Trotting Association, The Ohio Harness Horseman's Association and the Indiana Standardbred Association. Robert was also a proud member of the Dayton Canoe Club. "Sunday Bob" will be missed by many, but he will be in our hearts and on our minds forever!
A special "Thank You" to the nurses and aids of Hospice of the Miami Valley and to The Troy Care and Rehabilitation Center "A" wing, nurses and aides that helped make Bob's final days as comfortable as possible. Also, a special thanks to Molly for the nursing care that she provided to Bob in his home.
The family will be receiving friends from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 8, at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. with interment to follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery.
